The resort of Calis is a quiet family beach resort on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Located close to Fethiye, the resort is a popular holiday destination with families looking for a traditional ‘seaside’ atmosphere with low-key nightlife. Evenings can be spent at the romantic seafront

Calis promenade

tavernas, in the friendly music bars, at the small discos or by taking a leisurely stroll along the beautiful promenade which is traffic free and very romantic at night. Calis also offers you the chance to have a flutter at one of the resorts many casinos.

The resort has many child-friendly hotels and self-catering apartments which offer great budget price holiday accommodation for families. Most of the hotels, including the cheaper ones, offer children’s clubs and entertainment during the summer season. We found this really good site where you will find offers to suit all ‘pockets’. Parents can sit back and relax while the children enjoy the beaches while older children and teenagers can take part in scuba diving, paragliding lessons and horse riding.

Calis beach

The sand and shingle Calis beach follows an arc shape around a sheltered bay which extends to the larger resort of Fethiye. This small beach has crystal clear deep waters which are ideal for first time divers as they are very calm.

Away from the beach there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Try paragliding over Olu Deniz beach which will give you the thrill of a lifetime or stay on the ground with a horse ride through the beautiful pine forests which have amazing mountain backdrops. The more energetic can enjoy exploring the area on a trekking excursion, visiting places such as the ancient cities of Xanthos and Saklikent and the hidden canyons which surround the 12 miles of white sandy Patara Beach. Explore the streets of Calis which are lined with shops selling all kinds of wares before stopping for some traditional food at one of the many restaurants along the

Calis Aquapark

way. For total relaxation put your feet up and savour some quiet time over a Turkish coffee at one of the traditional cafes.

Calis enjoys a long hot summer season beginning in April and continuing right through to the end of October! Enjoying blue skies and plenty of Mediterranean sunshine throughout the year, Calis sees temperatures around the 30C mark in July and August with an almost constant 12 hours of sunshine a day. Even October sees water temperatures in excess of 20C. If you are combining a beach holiday with a sightseeing or activity holiday it is probably best to visit in April or May when it is not so hot and the countryside is in full bloom. Winters are very mild with temperatures still around the 15C mark and around 5 hours of warm sunshine every day.

Renaissance Antalya Beach Resort & Spa

“We booked our last minute holidays for this hotel and as it was winter we knew everything was not open, we were amazed as we walked through the doors to a welcoming drink of ice cold lemon. The hotel is amazing marble everywhere and a vintage car in reception. Our luggage was taken from the mini bus for us and was in our room before we got there! The rooms are nice, very clean and had a huge and very comfortable bed. The maids were brilliant and unobtrusive – they even turn down the sheets at night and leave a sweet on the pillow! The balcony was small with a chair and not much room for anything else. Friends we made upgraded their room and when we saw it we wish we had as they had a huge balcony with sun beds and much more room with lots of windows giving a light and airy feel to the room.

We were told the spa at the basement was very expensive but we used the free facilities the hamman and the sauna and indoor pool were lovely very clean. They supplied towels for this and the outdoor pools – only one was open but it was a bit chilly to use the others – looked amazing with big flume slides and a swim up bar.

They have a games room with free use on computers, internet access, x box, PlayStation’s and wii as well as snooker/pool tables, games, rummy-cub and chess/draughts (we didn’t open them to look). There is also a gym.

There is an Irish pub that had quiz night twice while we were there. The entertainment wasn’t brilliant but it was winter and we just wanted to relax so it suited us. There was a band a few nights in the piano room and room to dance as a few did.

The food was very healthy, lots of lovely salad and much of it organic. There was also pizza, burgers, chips, rice as well as pasta most nights, but not a lot of meat. They also had baby food and diet food as well, and full desert section as well as fruit. We ate in Seasons (free to use) and it was lovely. The oriental charged 10 euro each but we left it too late to book as it was only open certain days being winter i guess. From 4 till 5 a small coffee and cake counter was open near the piano bar and was very popular.

The gardens are lovely and take you down to the other pools, tennis courts and the beach -apparently there were bowls courts somewhere but we didn’t see them. The beach was not ready being winter but the beach bar dining area was nearly finished and looked lovely. The bus stop to the other towns was right outside the hotel just across the road and you pay when you get off very cheap and every 15 minutes.

We took Turkish lira but every where advertised in euros first, even at the airport. There were lots of shops opposite the hotel as well as a police station. The shops were closed being February but i imagine would be very nice in the

cocktail evening

summer. Reception changed our currency for us and gave us a better deal that the Gatwick airport did.

There is also a cat house there with lots of very friendly cats in the gardens and terrace but if shooed away were not a problem – they were quite happy to be fussed over too.

For a winter week we had a brilliant time very relaxing, lots of reading and good food – We would go back there again and will be looking for some more great bargain holidays.”

It was announced yesterday (3rd August 2011) that Holidays4u had ceased trading. Based in Brighton, Holidays4u specialised in holidays to Turkey and also traded as Aegean Flights. According to the administrator the company had “suffered because of difficulties faced by the travel industry as a result of the economic downturn”. It is believed that there are 13,000 people on holiday abroad at the present moment with Holidays4u and around 50,000 – 60,000 holidaymakers with future bookings over the peak season.

All package holidays and flights booked through Holidays4U are now cancelled and customers are advised not to go to the airport. You will need to claim for a refund from the CAA on package holidays and flights. If booked through a travel agent and if flights and accommodation was booked separately you will need to speak to the travel agent to see if they can help you to re-arrange your holiday.

Holidaymakers already abroad in Turkey and any other destinations with Holidays4u are advised to proceed to checkout for their flights home as normal as the CAA will ensure that any customers currently abroad can continue on their holiday as planned. If hoteliers ask for payment for the accommodation (which holidaymakers will have already paid to Holidays4u) the CAA has requested that all receipts should be kept and claimed back via the CAA on their return.

The small fishing village of Kas is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Sitting on a hillside with sheer imposing cliffs as a backdrop, Kas overlooks the crystal clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. The resort has a laid back atmosphere with narrow cobbled lanes and amazing views of the coastline and sea. For visitors looking for a bit more activity there are hiking, trekking and climbing opportunities in the

Kas

mountains overlooking the resort. The village has many restaurants and cafes serving freshly caught fish and seafood, authentic dishes, meze, kebabs and a host of other types of cuisine. Nightlife is very quiet here. Evenings are usually spent relaxing with a nice meal or enjoying a drink in the cafes and pubs which serve alcohol. The seafront tavernas serve excellent meals of locally caught fish. Try some Turkish coffee on your package holidays to Kas but be careful as it does tend to be very strong.

The village is built on the former ancient Lycian town of Habesos which was renamed Antiphellos by the ancient Greeks. The ruins of a Greek amphitheatre and the many rock tombs around the town are a reminder of the town’s history.

Kas has three shingle beaches, Buyuk Cakil (Big Pebble Beach), Kucuk Cakil (Little Pebble Beach) and the white shingle beach at Kaputas. These beaches are not really suitable for beach holidays although they do offer crystal clear blue waters which are perfect for swimming and

Kaputas Beach

diving. However Kas is one of Turkeys top diving holiday destinations and has nine local diving centres. The clear blue waters of the Mediterranean are perfect for discovering shipwrecks, ruins of ancient civilisations and the many species of colourful fish. Non-divers can take a ride on the glass-bottom boat and marvel at the amazing marine life swimming below them. Kas offers a range of water sports including snorkelling, sea kayaking, parasailing and the ever popular banana boat rides. Take a cruise along the coastline for some dolphin spotting and a relaxing dip in the sea at one of the many coves.

The area surrounding Kas is steeped in history with many ancient ruins waiting to be explored. These include Phellos, Kandyba, Nisa, Istlada and Komba in the village of Gombe. Dating back to the 8th century BC are the ruins at Xanthos. Once the capital of Turkey these ruins are worth a visit on your last minute holidays to this amazing country.

Kas enjoys a typically sunny Mediterranean climate with a long summer season from April to November. During the peak summer season the

Kas cobbled lane

resort enjoys temperatures in the low 30′s with 12 hours of sunshine a day. May and October are the best months for walking in the mountains as the temperature is around the mid 20′s. But with more than 300 hours of sunshine a year, Kas is the perfect destination at any time.
